La Boca. A must when in Buenos Aires. Or perhaps a ‘must not’?! People’s opinions about this neighbourhood are many and varied. I always wanted to go there, but then I read it up online and was close to a complete change of heart. Because what I found was so much negativity, ranging from ‘a horrible tourist trap’ and ‘shit food’ to ‘plain boring’ and ‘pickpocket heaven’. Diego Maradona, Eva Peron and Juan Peron.  But we decided to go anyway. We wanted to see the colourful houses and feel the vibe of this working class hood by the river. And we really enjoyed it! Maybe we were just lucky in the sense that we didn’t bump into too many tourists, or at least not more than we could handle. Besides, we completely avoided Calle Magallanes, where there’s a horde of restaurants and visitors. We also found a lovely place to eat and neither did we get robbed (the general idea is to keep an eye on your stuff and you’ll be fine), so none of us really understand how all this La Boca negativity came about.
